Octavio Guimaraes is a PhD student in the Department of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University, and his main research focus is Ruminant Nutrition. Octavio, originally from Jardinopolis, Sao Paulo - Brazil, earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from UNESP (Universidade Estadual Paulista) in Jaboticabal, Sao Paulo in 2016. During his time at UNESP, Octavio worked with many large beef cattle producers and gained the opportunity to network with many people from the Brazilian and US beef industries. Octavio first came to Colorado State University in 2016 for an internship, working with the Animal Nutrition Team, to help him diversify his cattle background and learn more about livestock nutrition in the United States. Upon completion of his internship, Octavio accepted a full time position as a Research Associate with Dr. Terry Engle. At Colorado State, Octavio works with graduate and undergraduate students, working on managing research projects mainly with beef and dairy cattle, along with overseeing the biochemistry laboratory and helping to teach Animal Nutrition courses. Additionally, he has been responsible for leading international groups of producers and technicians from Brazil, Argentina, Chile and other countries on tours of the research facilities such as Agricultural Research Development and Educational Center (ARDEC) and Eastern Colorado Research Center (ECRC) as well as industry partners of Colorado State. Octavio has completed his master’s degree and hopes to complete his PhD in 2022.
