Speaker Bio
Ed Eggers was not raised on a farm and when he changed his college major from Engineering to Agriculture his parents raised their eyebrows a bit. Their eyebrows went slightly higher as he milked cows at the CSU dairy barn to enhance his college pocket book and agricultural education. Things normalized after he married a Kansas wheat and black angus farmers daughter who definitely upgraded the family DNA.
Agriculture has exceeded Ed’s expectations and he and his wife, Vicki (same farmers daughter after nearly 40 year), focus on the natural food sector following over three decades of participation in the seed sector. They own a number of food companies in the Boulder, Colorado area, including the Bella Via Gluten Free brand (pizza crust/pasta) and Skyway Foods (which services the food start up industry with custom built and leased food manufacturing facilities, cold/freezer storage and equipment leasing). Additionally, Skyway Analytics, their multi-spectral imaging company, offers seed, grain and food quality verification services and equipment.
Ed spent much of his career in the seed sector including ownership, with Vicki, of Sunfield Seeds based in California’s Sacramento Valley. Sunfield Seeds specializes in hybrid sunflower seed production and managed approximately 25% of the global sunflower planting seed production with two processing facilities (one organic) exporting to 30+ countries worldwide. They sold Sunfield Seeds to Syngenta in 2012 and pivoted to the natural food sector with a focus on products being free of most common food allergens. Previously, Ed held international management and strategy positions with DEKALB Genetics and Monsanto.
Ed holds a BS in Agricultural Business from Colorado State University and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He is active with several land trusts while enjoying flying, skiing, hunting, fly fishing and trying to understand what’s going on with their farm activities. Ed and Vicki live in Longmont, Colorado and have three children who live nearby.
