Cesar L. Escalante is a research-teaching-extension professor at the University of Georgia (UGA). His research specialization areas include agricultural finance, agribusiness management, labor economics, and health economics. A dominant theme in his research revolves around issues confronted by socially and financially disadvantaged farmers, such as credit access, farm financial management, labor and health economics issues related to immigration policy, and microfinance. His efforts in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in all areas of his academic service have been recognized with several awards, including UGA President’s Martin Luther King Fulfilling the Dream Award and two awards (for Outstanding Mentoring in 2020 and Distinguished Teaching in 2021) from the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA), the premier academic and professional organization in the field of agricultural economics. He was also the recipient of the 2022 Ketchum Prize given by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation for his research accomplishments in and advocacy for advancing financial inclusion of racial and gender minority farm borrowers.
