Speaker Bio

Chauncy Monden is the proprietor of Kula Country Farms with 25 years of experience farming. Growing up in Kula, Maui, Chauncy came from a long line of farmers, with his family immigrating to Hawai’i from Japan to work on the sugarcane plantations in the 1800’s. His great grandparents left the plantation to instead farm in Kula, which laid the foundation for Kula Country Farms, now four generations later.

After growing up on his family farm, Chauncy enrolled in the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance. After meeting his now wife, Teena, on O’ahu they eventually returned to Maui to take up the family farm and raise their family.

Under Chauncy's leadership, Kula Country Farms not only continued its rich tradition in farming but also adapted to the evolving demands of agriculture. His unwavering dedication not only preserved the family legacy but elevated Kula Country Farms to a central role in the Maui community. The farm has become a hub for various events, including the annual pumpkin patch, strawberry Upick, and other community gatherings. The farm store, open daily, serves as a local resource for fresh produce and goods.

Beyond farming, Chauncy actively serves as the Chairperson for the Maui County FSA (Farm Service Agency), demonstrating his commitment to the broader agricultural community.
