Cody Book currently farms with his family (father, Ken and brother, Jeremy) in the Harvard, IL area. They raise corn, soybeans, wheat, hay, and rye. They also feed cattle from 400lbs to finish. To diversify their portfolio, they conduct seed sales, crop protection sales, and tractor part sales. Cody's family just celebrated their centennial year farming at their current locations on Bunker Hill Rd. The run ground from Winnebago County, through Boone County, and end up between Crystal Lake and Woodstock. Their soil types range from prairie soil, to timber clay, peat bogs and gravel/clay. Due to the diversity of their soil types, the Book family farming practices are extremely different based on the soil type and topography. They try to grow a good crop wherever they go but are most proud of the crops raised on the tough farms. They generally incorporate a corn, beans, wheat rotation on these acres. Following the wheat with a composted manure and a cover crop to hold the nutrients/soil and build a healthier soil structure. The Book family has organically farmed, strip tilled, no tilled, and ridge tilled among others. The family has collectively seen and tried several different farming practices and in no circumstances has one method ever solved every acre's issues. Cody and his family pride themselves on being stewards of the land and contributing members of their community.
