Mike Thoren has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Five Rivers since the Company’s inception in 2005. Its 11 feedyards combine for a one time capacity of approximately 900 thousand head. These cattle and facilities are cared for by approximately 700 team members.
From 2003 until 2005, Mike was the President and CEO of ContiBeef LLC, a former wholly owned subsidiary of Continental Grain Company. Mike began his career with the Cattle Feeding Division of Continental Grain Company starting as a Management Trainee in 1991 and worked his way up through the Company as feedyard General Manager, Director of Feedlot Operations, Vice President of Operations, and CEO. Mike received his Master of Science in Agricultural Economics in 1991 and Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness from Washington State University in 1990.
Mike and his wife, Christina have four children and reside in Berthoud, Colorado. They are actively involved in farming and ranching enterprises in Washington State. These operations entail commercial cow/calf, dryland wheat, premium export alfalfa hay, various seed crops and fly fishing enterprises. Mike is active in a number of local and national industry groups. Outside of work Mike enjoys supporting his children’s various sporting events and is an avid skier and hunter.
