Dr. Ervin Leiva serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agriculture at Angelo State University, bringing over seventeen years of dedicated experience to the field. His career has significantly contributed to regional and agribusiness development throughout the Western Hemisphere across collaborations with non-governmental organizations, the U.S. Government, the private sector, and numerous agribusiness entities. Beyond his academic and professional endeavors, Dr. Leiva actively engaged in part-time cattle and equine ranching, showcasing his broad expertise.
His research focuses on the resilience strategies of farmers, especially Latinx immigrant farmers navigating market entry and production challenges. Dr. Leiva critically examines the adaptation strategies these farmers use to transition into markets, addressing price risk management and the crucial roles of both formal and informal institutions in the agricultural sector.
As a Fulbright scholar, Dr. Leiva boasts a comprehensive educational background, holding a BS in Animal and Dairy Science from Iowa State University, a MS in Animal, Dairy, and Poultry Sciences from the University of Florida, and a PhD in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Missouri.
