Dr. Florence Becot is a rural sociologist and associate research scientist at the National Farm Medicine Center. Her research and extension program is focused on understanding farm families’ ability to meet their social and economic needs along with the consequences of challenges meeting these needs on their health, safety, and the economic viability of their farm business. Recent work includes farm families’ access to health care, health insurance, and childcare as well mental health crisis support. Becot earned her PhD from the Ohio State University and was previously a researcher at the University of Vermont Center for Rural Studies.
