An Open Door is the forthcoming documentary that reflects on the influential life and work of Dr. Temple Grandin as a champion of the humane treatment of livestock, autism rights, and inclusive neurodiversity by employing her gifted insights from her personal experience with autism and visual thinking. The film speaks with Dr. Grandin, her colleagues, industry professionals and those she has influenced to celebrate her groundbreaking life, lessons learned and lasting legacy. An Open Door is directed by award-winning filmmaker John Barnhardt and presented by Colorado State University.

Farm Foundation Round Table tours are carefully curated to provide an intimate behind-the-scenes look at a variety of local producers and agri-food businesses. In true peer-to-peer fashion, tour attendees hear from farmers, ranchers, and operators for their perspective on the meeting topic through the lens of their operation.
There will be separate tours leaving anywhere from 7:30 - 7:50 a.m.

As a special part of our opening reception, we will be working with local Colorado distillers to provide a whiskey tasting. You will have time to not only enjoy Colorado curated whiskies but also visit with distillery owners and representatives as they have their tasting tables at the event.

No issue brings the urban-rural divide more to the forefront than disputes about water rights. In this session we’ll take a look at creative water management and policy that is helping balance the needs of growing urban and suburban populations against the more rural water resources needed to support our food and agricultural economy.

The animal agriculture industry faces ever increasing pressure from both rural and urban communities to adapt practices, manage externalities, and still feed a growing population. In this session we’ll look at how to increase consumer trust and understanding, current issues that are dividing communities, and what the animal agriculture industry is doing to respond to a wide range of consumer pressures.

Dr. Frank is a frequent speaker on topics relating to rural-urban collaboration, and has spearheaded multiple initiatives through his leadership to bridge rural and urban understandings, particularly regarding food production, in Colorado.
