Join us for the tour day where we will visit multiple local stops including the Port of Savannah. The Port of Savannah is home to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America, and is comprised of two modern, deepwater terminals. While touring the port, we will hear from the staff at the Georgia Ports Authority and see the operation in full swing. We will then head to the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens where we will tour the grounds and hear from the Director as well as the University of Georgia Dean. In true southern fashion, lunch will be a low country boil (shellfish). After lunch, we will make our way to Bland Farms the largest grower, packer, and shipper of sweet onions in the United States. Bland Farms represents roughly one quarter of the entire Vidalia® sweet onion volume, and has the largest controlled-environment storage capacity in the industry. Finally, the tour will wrap up with a final stop at ArborGen Bellville Nursery. ArborGen has seven nurseries, six orchards, and additional facilities to distribute seedlings throughout the southeastern United States. Current product development facilities conduct research to find improved growth rates, yields, stress tolerance, disease resistance, and wood quality. ArborGen now produces the largest number of both conventional and advanced genetic tree seedlings in the world.
